Large deciduous tree to 70' tall and wide; rather large oval leaves, lobed, dark green above, gray-silvery below; has been in collections 68 years, since 1942. Fruit is a large acorn relished by wildlife. Plant in full sun in moist, well-drained acid soil. Fall color is a rich brown.
