Comments: A rare deciduous tree, 15-20' tall with a vase-shaped habit. Distinctive mottled bark is featured on older branches and trunks. Bright green summer leaves change to reddish in autumn. Fragrant, 2" wide, flowers are produced in the leaf axils in June. Fruits are a brown capsule, containing shiny, dark brown seeds.
