Comments: A native deciduous tree growing 50-75' tall. It has distinctive sulfur-colored buds that are a sure-fire identification feature in winter. Bark is gray to brown and shallowly furrowed. Mature trees develop a relatively slender, somewhat irregular, cylindrical crown. It is believed to be the fastest growing member of the hickories. Fall color is yellow.
