Image: Popovich, Margaret M. - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Fortune's plum-yew, Chinese plum-yew
Family: Cephalotaxaceae
Distribution: China and Burma
IUCN Red list: Least concern
Hardiness: USDA Zone 6
Life form: Evergreen shrub
Comments: A large evergreen conifer shrub or small tree probably no more than 10' tall in our area. It has horizontal branches producing a somewhat open, conical habit. Needles are lustrous, dark green with two silver bands beneath. Bark is peeling, reddish-brown. Useful as a specimen or accent. A good, hardy substitute for the common yew, combining shade and drought tolerance of the latter but unique for its resistance to deer browse.
