Taxon

Fagus orientalis 'Iskander'

.
.
Common name: Iskander Oriental beech
Family: Fagaceae (beech family)
Distribution: Species native to s.e. Europe and s.w. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: Rare selection with a very slim, fastigiate habit and attractive, rounded fresh-green leaves which turn a striking, butter-yellow in a good crisp autumn. The dead leaves hold for a long time on the tree before blowing away. This deciduous tree matures at 50' high and 3' wide after many years. The very narrow nature makes this selection a superb tree for formal planting or avenues and a suitable choice for gardens with limited available space.
