This pine is endemic to China and is listed as near threatened. The bark is gray or brown-gray toward the base of the trunk, red-brown toward the top of the tree, and pale brown inside. The crown is conical on young trees, but becomes flat topped at maturity. Trees are often excellent sources of lumber, wood products, and resins; many are cultivated for reforestation and as ornamentals.
