Comments:
This exciting new selection was developed from a crossing of the double-flowering cultivar 'Flame' with a popular cultivar of Texas redbud called 'Oklahoma'. This selection has reddish-purple flower color, double flowers, and small glossy leaves typical of the Texas redbud. It is also female sterile, and sets no unsightly seed pods. 'Pink Pom Poms' is a distinct improvement over the cultivar 'Flame', previously the only other double-flowered cultivar available. In mid to late April, lavender, pea-like flowers cover the stems before the foliage. It grows to about 15-20' tall and 12' wide. Fall color is yellow but in most years not spectacular. Once established it is a tough tree doing well in urban landscapes.
