Acer palmatum 'Alpenweiss' - Alpenweiss Japanese maple
.
Common name: Alpenweiss Japanese maple
Family: Aceraceae (maple family)
Distribution: Species native to e. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: A fantastic reticulated variegated selection found by Bob Balzer in Oregon. The spring foliage starts off with pink reticulation (edging) that fades to cream then white. Later the foliage fades to a multi-shaded green. In fall, the pink edging returns. Mature height approaches 12-14' in 25 years. Best coloration occurs in sun but some scorching can occur if the site is too hot and dry. Excellent patio or specimen plant.
