Comments: Another of the improved U. S. National Arboretum introduction. This small, rounded deciduous flowering shrub grows to 6' tall and wide. Dark green leaves as large as 12" across, deeply lobed, resemble an oak leaf. Large, upright flower panicles, held above foliage, occur on second-year wood in June/July, up to 9" long. They open white, turn pale pink, finally deep rose. Autumn color is beautiful maroon with the leaves and dried flower petals matching in color.
