Comments: A deciduous suckering shrub growing in thickets near swamps and marshes in the sand-belt near the Atlantic coast and shores of Lake Erie. Its height is from 3-8', leaves shiny and resinous, dot-ted on both sides and fragrant when rubbed. Clusters of small blue fruit appear to "interrupt" the leaves on branches. This species is dioecious so fruit is produced on female plants only, with a male nearby.
