A fast-growing, small, deciduous tree, with leathery dark green leaves. Not grown for attractive bark. Reported to reach 30' high and wide in 16 year period. Grown for its cold hardiness, small well-formed vase-shaped crown and red fall color (fall color seldom effective in central Ohio).
