Tsuga canadensis 'Nana' - dwarf Canadian hemlock
.
Common name: dwarf Canadian hemlock
Family: Pinaceae (pine family)
Distribution: Species native to e. North America
Hardiness: USDA Zone 3
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: A densely branched, dwarf evergreen growing 3' tall, but may reach 9' in spread. Decidedly horizontal in outline and works well in front of larger specimens. Needles are especially dark green year-round, closely pressed together, tufted in appearance, 1/4" long. Has been cultivated for decades but still ranks superior to most dwarf hemlock forms.
