Comments:
Also called gum bully, this is an unusual, southern native shrub with small, sweetly scented white flowers in spring followed by small black fruits. The thorny stems help prevent predation by deer of the foliage and edible fruits. A gum exuded from the bark and a Central American relative was the source of early chewing gum. Plant in full sun in average soil.
