Comments: In cultivation, this deciduous, suckering shrub grows to about 5' tall. Fragrant flowers open in May with white petals splashed with purple and pink. Leaves are up to 2" long and wider at the tips than at the base, medium-green taking on yellow fall color. Fruits are a light brown capsule ripening in the fall and harboring numerous dust-like seeds. Plant in full sun to part shade in rich, moist, well-drained, acid soil.
