Comments: A deciduous tree which grows to 100' or more in its native habitat. Branches are light brown and conspicuously hairy. Leaves are alternate, elliptic to rounded at the base, 5-11 broad lobes often sickle-shaped (falcate). Middle lobe pronounced. Fruit is a nut (acorn) held in a saucer-shaped cup. A handsome, full-bodied tree with leaves displaying a lacquer-like luster late into fall. Useful as a large shade or specimen tree. Plant in spring only.
