Comments: An open, rounded evergreen shrub with a compact habit to 6' or less. Needles only 1" long, crowded along the stems. Bark, on older wood, is dark brown and scaly. Cones, if produced, are ovoid, 1-3" long, solitary or in groups on the ends of branches. Has excellent dark green winter color and good compact growth. Subject to pine needle scale and sawfly damage, but otherwise quite adaptable to urban conditions. Use as a specimen or rock garden plant.
