Pinus densiflora 'Pendula'

Pinus densiflora 'Pendula' - weeping Japanese red pine
Image: Ecker, Michael E. - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: weeping Japanese red pine
Family: Pinaceae (pine family)
Distribution: Species native to e. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: Tends to spread over the ground with twisting, drooping branches unless trained upright by staking. If staked with a central leader, it will develop a "weeping" habit. Needles are an excellent, rich green. A suggestion for use might be to allow it to droop over a rock wall, or ledge. Plant in well-drained, slightly acid soil in a sunny location.
