Pieris japonica Taiwanensis Group - Taiwanese pieris, Formosa-andromeda
Image: Payton, Gregory - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Taiwanese pieris, Formosa-andromeda
Family: Ericaceae (heath family)
Synonym: Pieris japonica var. taiwanensis, Pieris taiwanensis
Distribution: Taiwan
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Evergreen shrub
Comments: A compact evergreen shrub usually not more than 6' high in cultivation. Stout, deep glossy green and leathery leaves are an excellent background for the nodding or horizontal panicles of pure white, urn-shaped flowers in April. Believed slightly more hardy than other pieris types.
