Comments: A medium-size, deciduous tree growing to 100' in its native habitat; expect only about 50' tall and 25-30' wide in the landscape. Leaves are large, up to 7" long. Fruit is a dark purple drupe that is enjoyed by birds. Mature trees develop swollen bases that taper rapidly to long, clear trunks. Bark on mature trees breaks into deeply furrowed, dark gray plates.
