Comments: A broadly conical tree to 60' tall by 40' wide. Wine-red fall color. Leaves are star-shaped, lustrous, bright green. Flowers are inconspicuous opening in April/May. Fruit is aggregate of capsules, with prickles so sharp that rabbits will not walk over them when used as a mulch around rabbit-damage prone plants.
