Kalmia latifolia 'Little Linda'

.
.
Common name: Little Linda mountain-laurel
Family: Ericaceae (heath family)
Distribution: Species native to e. United States
Hardiness: USDA Zone 4
Life form: Evergreen shrub
Comments: This cultivar of mountain-laurel was named by Richard Jaynes after his daughter and was a 2003 Cary Award winner. It is a dwarf plant with foliage half the size of other cultivars or the species, bearing buds that are dark red and open to near white flowers in late May. The flowers then age to an impressive perfect pink. Good as a landscape plant for its ability to be used in smaller spaces and is able to perform in sun or shade as a specimen or grouped to form a delightful border planting.
