Image: Ecker, Michael E. - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Blue Forest creeping juniper
Family: Cupressaceae (cypress family)
Distribution: Species native to n. North America
Hardiness: USDA Zone 3
Life form: Evergreen groundcover
Comments: A low-growing, evergreen groundcover, growing to 18" tall and slightly wider. Needlelike foliage is dark blue in summer; winter turns the foliage even darker and it becomes bluish purple. The foliage is free of discoloring diseases present in some other selections. The branches are in short sprays that individually turn up giving it its name. A great evergreen groundcovers that is nice used with other conifers or growing over a stone wall.
