Taxon

Ilex opaca 'Weston'

.
.
Common name: Weston American holly
Family: Aquifoliaceae (holly family)
Distribution: Species native to e. United States
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: A female, broadleaf, evergreen seedling selection by Wayne Mezitt of Weston Nurseries, registered with the Holly Society. Will eventually grow 20-30' tall by 15-20' wide. 'Nelson West', a nearby male selection, is believed the pollinator because of similar narrow leaf forms. In the presence of a male pollinator, globose scarlet-red berries form in June and ripen September/October.
