An upright, broadly conical, female broadleaf evergreen tree growing 20' high by 15' wide. Leaves are dark glossy green and spiny. Red berries ripen in September and persist into winter. An "old-time" cultivar introduced around 1940. Requires a male American holly nearby for fruit production.
