Comments: A cultivar named after the island of Japan that has been in cultivation for many decades. Though flower clusters are small by comparison with other cultivated forms, consisting of a higher percentage of fertile florets, this is nevertheless a fine plant. Flowers are held firmly upright, opening relatively early in June, 6-8" long. Leaves are deciduous, opposite, linear to oval in shape, exceptionally dark green and lustrous for its type.
