Comments: A deciduous shrub to 15' tall and wide over a 20 year period. Habit is vase-shaped and shows horizontal branching with age. Clustered flowers open in late January, displaying maroon petals bordered with white, and are pleasingly fragrant. Summer foliage is attractive dark green, oval in shape, with wavy margins. Bark is light gray on young stems becoming dark gray-brown on older wood. Fruits are clustered 2-3, dark brown, and harbor tiny rod-shaped seeds. An excellent specimen, brightening the winter landscape for several weeks.
