Comments: A vigorously growing medium to large, deciduous shrub, reaching 10' tall and 15' wide. In late winter, curled and twisted, strap-shaped petals open in a good, bright red, with contrasting purple calyx, having a fairly strong, sweet fragrance. Leaves are alternate, simple, purple flushed in spring turning glossy dark green in summer. In fall leaves turn yellow and orange. An excellent specimen for the winter landscape.
