Comments: A rare occurrence indeed when in 2004 a new species of woody plant was discovered in the southern United States! This large leaved, winter flowering, deciduous shrub has flowers in shades of red and leaves much larger than our common witch-hazel. Site in loamy, moist soil with overhead canopy for shade.
