.
.
Common name: twisted purple European beech
Family: Fagaceae (beech family)

Comments: In most respects, this plant is identical to the well-known twisted European beech (F. sylvatica 'Tortuosa') but with reddish-purple foliage. This cultivar will grow irregularly but generally wider than tall (8' by 15') with a characteristically zigzag branching pattern. The contorted stems will eventually cascade to the ground giving an overall picturesque demeanor.
