.
Common name: Chinese fringetree
Family: Oleaceae (olive family)
Distribution: e. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: A wonderful, deciduous, small tree to large shrub. It grows to 25' tall and nearly as wide with a spreading, rounded habit. Multiple trunks often have beautiful, peeling, orange-brown bark. White flowers are produced abundantly in May; they are in many-flowered panicles and have a slight fragrance. Dark blue fruit is produced on female trees only, in the presence of a male pollinator. A great specimen tree. Drought resistant once established and virtually pest free. Site in full sun in moist, well-drained soil.
