Image: Ecker, Michael E. - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Heatherbun Atlantic white-cedar false cypress
Family: Cupressaceae (cypress family)
Distribution: Species native to Coastal Plain of e. United States
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: A globose evergreen conifer with very soft foliage. In summer, juvenile foliage is a soft plum-green darkening in winter to a more intense plum color. Reputed to respond well to regular shearing but better to give it room to grow. Expect 6-8' tall and wide. A wonderful color addition to the winter landscape mixed with other conifers or in the border.
