Image: Larson, Richard A. - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Korean plum-yew
Family: Cephalotaxaceae
Synonym: Cephalotaxus koreana
Distribution: Korea
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Evergreen shrub
Comments: A shrubby, tufted form, growing to approximately 6' tall. Evergreen needles are a very dark glossy green, long and tapered. A dioecious plant with male cones displayed in head-like clusters and female cones paired underneath the needles. Fleshy cones ripen from green to purple in the fall. A good, hardy substitute for the common yew, combining shade and drought tolerance of the latter but unique for its resistance to deer browse.
