Comments: A rare selection of a large, deciduous, upright oval shade tree. It is reported it does not grow as large as the species, which means less than 70' tall and wide. This tree is noted for its showy red flowers with yellow blotch in terminal panicles in May. Leaves consist of 5-7 leaflets attached to stout, gray stems. Older bark is fissured into plate-like scales. Light brown spiny capsules contain up to two seeds.
