Digitata common horse-chestnut
Family:
Hippocastanaceae (horse-chestnut family)
Synonym:
Aesculus hippocastanum 'Pumila'
Distribution:
Species native to s.e. Europe
Hardiness:
USDA Zone 4

Deciduous tree
Comments:
Normally a large, upright, deciduous shade tree, this selection is unusual in that it is a dwarf. Flowering is reputed to be restricted, but if produced they are white terminal panicles in May. The leaflets are much smaller and more narrow than the species and where 5-7 leaflets are the norm, it produces 3-5. The texture overall is much finer.
