Image: Ecker, Michael E. - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Garnet threadleaf Japanese maple
Family: Aceraceae (maple family)
Distribution: Species native to e. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: A beautiful and graceful mound of fine-textured, deeply dissected leaves makes this a garden showpiece. It is a vigorous selection growing 8' tall and 10' wide. Spring foliage is orange-red, turning dark red in fall. Stunning in the landscape, cascading over a wall or near water feature. While it can take shade, red leaf color is intensified in sun.
