Image: Ortman, Lisa - The Dawes Arboretum
.
Common name: Angyo Weeping trident maple
Family: Aceraceae (maple family)
Distribution: Species native to China
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: Quite unusual in the world of maples. This small, deciduous selection becomes a strongly cascading form even when young, growing about 15' tall. Leaves are distinctly 3-lobed. Summer foliage is a striking glossy dark green becoming an attractive burgundy in fall. Bark becomes dark gray-brown and exfoliates. Reputedly tolerant to pollution, poor soil and some drought.
