.
Common name: Candicans white fir
Family: Pinaceae (pine family)
Synonym: Abies concolor 'Argentea'
Distribution: Species native to w. United States and Mexico
Hardiness: USDA Zone 3
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: The bluest selection of white fir available with large, silvery-blue, soft, evergreen needles. Narrowly conical in habit, growing 30' tall and half as wide in 30 years. Considered the best type of fir for the Midwest, this species is known for retaining its lower limbs longer than many other conifers. Unlike most firs it is equally tolerant of heat and cold once established and very tolerant of urban conditions.
