Comments: A large, coarse-textured, deciduous shrub that can grow 6' tall with a greater spread. Young branches are brown to red and tomentose to the touch. Leaves may be as large as 12" across, deeply lobed, resembling an oak leaf. Flowers occur on second-year wood in early summer (June/July), up to 8" across, and are creamy white in color drying brown on the plant. Autumn color is often a beautiful maroon with the leaves and flower petals matching each other.
