A 40-80', slow-growing, evergreen tree with a dense, narrowly conical crown. Smooth gray bark becomes thick and blackish gray, exfoliating to expose red or gray-brown surface beneath. Bright, glossy green needles can be damaged by spring frosts as this species starts into growth very early. Good used with other evergreens or as a specimen.
