Comments: A deciduous native, slow-growing understory plant that is often quite variable in size from a small shrub to 20' tree. Glossy dark green leaves are compound with three leaflets. Fall color can be yellow to yellowish green. Non-descript, fragrant yellow-green flowers occur in May but are nothing to shout about. Bark is dark gray and smooth. Fruit is a dry, flattened winged samara. Grows well in moist, well-drained soil in sun or deep shade in a naturalistic landscape.
