Taxon

Alnus incana subsp. incana 'Laciniata'

.
.
Common name: cutleaf European white alder
Family: Betulaceae (birch family)
Distribution: Species native to Europe and w. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 2
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: A medium sized tree to 40'. This native of Europe grows quickly to form a gracefully branched, open tree which, in this case, is punctuated by interesting dissected foliage. The 6-8 lobed leaves are divided 2/3 of the way to the mid-rib. Handsome for its light gray bark and glossy-green leaves but takes on no appreciable fall color. Best planted in the spring and is more tolerant of moist-to-wet soils than most species.
