Abies nordmanniana - Nordmann fir, Caucasian fir
.
Common name: Nordmann fir, Caucasian fir
Family: Pinaceae (pine family)
Distribution: s.w. Asia
IUCN Red list: Least concern
Hardiness: USDA Zone 4
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: This evergreen is considered by some to be one of the most handsome of firs. Its habit is broadly conical and very symmetrical with long, low sweeping branches. Leaves are evergreen needles with bluish white bands on their lower surface. When bruised, they give off a fragrance that is reminiscent of Christmas and, in fact, this fir is becoming more available as a Christmas tree.
