Polemonium pulcherrimum

.
.
Common name: showy Jacob's-ladder
Family: Polemoniaceae (phlox family)
Distribution: w. North America
IUCN Red list: Least concern
Life form: Herbaceous perennial
Comments: Jacob’s-ladder produces loose clusters of small, blue-lavender flowers that bloom from May to August. Unfortunately, it does not have a pleasant fragrance to match its beauty, instead possessing a rather pungent, skunk-like odor. Native to western United States, this plant is often found in dry, rocky places. The common name refers to the foliage, which consists of paired leaflets arranged all along the leaf stem like a ladder.
