Acer 'Hipzam' Highland Park®

.
.
Common name: Highland Park® maple
Family: Aceraceae (maple family)
Distribution: hybrid: selection of Acer grandidentatum × A. saccharum
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous tree
Comments: Highland Park® maple is not a large tree, having a rather pyramidal growth habit and reaching 30-50 ft. tall with a spread of 20-25 ft. It can be used as a stand alone accent tree in residential landscapes. While it can tolerate dry soils and urban pollution, it is not a good choice for boulevard planting or saline soil. This hybrid does not produce showy flowers or fruit, but does, however, have very nice sturdy, tatter proof foliage. In spring and summer, the leaves are a rich dark green, progressing to gorgeous reds, yellows and oranges in autumn. Young red branches also add an attractive element to the landscape throughout the year.
