Comments: A fantastic new selection of our native blackgum is a deciduous tree that can grow to 60' tall by 30' wide. It is most noted for its upright, pyramidal habit and extremely uniform branching. Flowers open in May on long stalks, clustered 2-3, white and inconspicuous. Foliage consists of alternate, simple, 2 1/2 - 4" long leaves. Leaves emerge light green but deepen to glossy, dark green in summer. Fall color takes on an outstanding shade of burgundy red and orange. Fruits ripen in the fall to a blue-black drupe, 1/4" wide. A beautiful shade tree worthy of a place in any garden. Tolerant of wet soils. Discovered by Alex Neubauer of Hidden Hollow Nursery, Tennessee.
