Comments: A large, deciduous shrub forming a multi-stemmed, rounded mass to 10' tall and wide. Sports large, 6-8" long leaves and thick grayish brown, hairy stems. Lustrous, leathery dark green leaves have a semi-evergreen quality and are often present well into winter. Flowers open mid-April as white, 6-8" wide flat-topped clusters. Flowers give way to egg-shaped fruit that ripens red to black in autumn. A reliably hardy shrub that masses well to form an effective screen for tough sites. Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil.
