Taxon

Spiraea japonica 'Candlelight'

.
.
Common name: Candlelight Japanese spirea
Family: Rosaceae (rose family)
Synonym: Spiraea × bumalda 'Candlelight'
Distribution: Species native to e. Asia
Hardiness: USDA Zone 4
Life form: Deciduous shrub/Subshrub
Comments: The compact, mound-like habit and butter-yellow foliage make this 2-3' high and wide deciduous shrub a good candidate for the foundation planting or small garden area. Pink blooms are produced in large clusters in late spring or early summer. Fall color is dark red. A good heavy pruning first thing in spring every few years encourages fresh growth.
