.
Common name: Yaku Angel Yakushima rhododendron
Family: Ericaceae (heath family)
Distribution: Species native to Japan
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5

Comments: An outstanding semi-dwarf, dense mounded evergreen shrub spreading nearly twice as wide as tall. It typically grows about 3' tall. Its buds are light purplish pink opening to white flowers producing an apple flower effect. The long and narrow new growth develops into deep green foliage which can be retained for up to four years. The lower sides of leaves are covered with a white wooly indumentum (covering of fine hairs) which is quite striking. Makes a good foundation plant, grouping or specimen. Greer selection.
