Comments:
An elepidote (large-leaf evergreen) rhododendron species distantly allied to Rhododendron brachycarpum, R. smirnowii and R. yakushimanum noted for its leathery 5-6" long leaves with strongly rolled-under edges. Trusses of 5-12, white, 2" wide flowers appear in May. These flowers can sometimes be spotted with purple giving a two-toned appearance. Plants grow as a dense, mounded shrub to 6 feet tall and wide.
