Comments: A broadleaf evergreen shrub of compact habit to only 3' tall and wide. Introduced by the late Ohioan and hybridizer, Tony Shammarello, one of six, so-called "Royal Family" rhododendrons. Flowers open in mid-May, strong red bud color opening to deep purplish pink, blotched paler pink, 2¼" across. Leaves open a silvery color changing to olive-green with year-round, copious, felt-like hairs underneath. Excellent specimen, planted along border, or as accent under tree.
